A Lil Bit Bout Big Booty Book


    My name is Keiry Saravia and I am a senior at California State University-Northridge majoring in English-Single Subject Matter and minoring in Central American and Transborder Studies. 

I am originally from Hollywood, born and raised, and my family is from Santiago De Maria, El Salvador. I am a first generation student with the goal of becoming an immigration lawyer before pursing a career in politics. However, I want to teach English on the side. 

Before arriving at CSUN, I went to Fairfax High School where I played football as a safety and was part of the Theater Club and Magnet Council. 

Once I arrived at CSUN, I decided to play on the Women's Rugby Club as a forward; where I later became Social Media Manager. After that I decided to run to be a student representative in Associated Students and served as the College of Humanities Senator my sophomore year. I then became Chair of Legislative Affairs and served as one of CSUN's student representatives at the CSU level and the statewide level during my junior year. Now going into my senior year I will be serving as Associated Students President, representing CSUN students statewide and federally. 

Aside from my academic and professional life, I love literature and politics. I enjoy being outdoors, touching grass, and being chronically online. 

I also love music!

  Poetry and I? Never. I have always disliked poetry. I always felt dumb when reading it, but even more when I was expected to explicate it and find the meanings. I think that is why it was so difficult for me to want to study poetry. I think the main difference between writing poetry and writing about poetry is that when you write poetry you can determine the meaning and decide what the “final message” is. However, when you are writing about poetry it is much more difficult to interpret things especially if you have no idea who the author is and how they wanted the poem to be interpreted. It already stresses me out when I am told that my interpretation of literature is incorrect, but with something like poetry where the interpretation could have several meanings because of how it is written.  When I wrote my own poem, I couldn’t really distinguish the type of poem I wanted to write. The Myth of Pokemon

  Could there be a better way to understand a myth other than making one? Maybe, but creating a myth allows for students to do more than write one. There is a lot of thought that has to go into the creation because there are a lot of elements that you need to include. My myth was about the creation of Pokemon, how its original intention was to provide tarot readings for the emperors and their families. The creatures of pokemon were the original beings that roamed the lands of Japan. The Pokéseer were the ones who connected with the creatures even after they were long gone from the earth, and gave them meanings.  If I am being honest, creating a myth allowed me to have a new found respect for myths. The history behind a lot of it could be seen as unrealistic, yet they help explain so many phenomena that one can find and connect with throughout their lives.
